ABOUT ME

Since the summer of 2019, I have continued my work with military veterans within a Southampton based organisation, also supporting adults within my private practice based in Romsey.

I will work towards unpicking and healing your areas of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

My gentle, empathic approach, will create a safe space for you to talk, and I will provide a range of coping techniques, including grounding exercise and mindfulness to support your journey away from the counselling process.

My past 17-year career in the Commercial Finance sector, enabled me to focus on mental health challenges within an extremely demanding sales environment. As a Wellbeing Champion, I focused with areas of Work Life Balance enabling me to develop supportive coping skills and find my counselling pathway. I have embraced my passion for helping and supporting others, starting a counselling career in 2017.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to the ethical framework, professionally delivering good and safe practice.

Within my own journey, I have moved towards healing. By supporting myself, I have embraced an empathic relationship with the future I desired and engaged with the life around me.

I realised that something was not working for me, I wanted to feel alive and connect with my inner creativity. As I explored counselling, the spontaneity of the process and the wider perspective of what counselling could do for my life, enabled me to realise my connection with others on a deeper level.

My own confidence began to emerge, I felt my physical and internal exploration played a large part of my counselling journey. I felt for the first time in my life I had complete control. My own experience of counselling has enabled me to explore the benefits of grounding techniques, immersing in a relationship together with the world around us, we can explore a greater sense of connection and belonging.

I am continually learning the value of trusting the process, I believe client lead therapy enables growth within a safe and controlled setting. Holding the first few sessions indoors, prevents exposure to vulnerability outside the room. Outdoor therapy may provide openness and unpressured freedom. Working together, regardless of the setting, we will set the rules together, within the boundaries of the surroundings and what feels right for you.

Mutual respect and safety, ensures comfort and peace of mind for the important work within the counselling process.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness practice can bring your attention into the present moment, non-judgmentally, developing skills through mindful meditation.

Mindfulness Meditation is a powerful way of controlling your mind. It is a Buddhist tradition that enables the mind to process and clear out negative thoughts, to eventually find spiritual and mental relaxation.

Mindfulness is a psychological process, enabling the here and now to be brought into the present moment. It is believed that the control over the mind, enables the body to heal, for example feeling stressed or angry can raise blood pressure, potentially causing a heart attack or stroke, these feelings can eat away at the body. Holding tension within you, which can manifest into physical pain and further health problems. I will always be mindful of the environment being created.

Ways I can help you apply:

  • Breathing exercise’s
  • Eating and drinking (Mindfulness eating – listen your body)
  • Exercise
  • Explore where you are, in this moment right now
  • Grounding – Exploring the five senses (Taste, smell, touch, hearing, sight)
  • Meditation
  • Music
  • Walking therapy (Being at one with nature, explore your surroundings)

Benefits of applying mindfulness:

  • Acceptance of others
  • Concentration reduces rumination, recovery from stressful events and emotional regulation (Able to see clearer and search for a solution)
  • Enjoy life (Become resilient/manage pain)
  • Health benefits – Relieves stress, anxiety (Reduces risk of depression)
  • Loose your mind and come to your senses
  • Recharge/Rebalance/Refocus (Improves quality of sleep)
  • Reduce worry and anxiety
  • Self-Awareness/connect mind and body (May help healthier eating habits (Self-awareness of body – allergies/intolerances)
  • Slow down/Calm (Clarity of the mind (Dealing with situations clearer, aiding mental health)
  • Self-care
  • Uncover deeper feelings and emotions
  • Can enhance memory (Decreasing the mind from wondering, improve concentration, learning and creativity)

Walk and Talk/Eco Therapy

Walking therapy is a shared activity, creating different ways to explore your counselling pathway.
I will walk the path together with you.
Being outdoors may help open your mind and improve your general health and wellbeing.

Natural outdoor settings aid relaxation, releasing endorphins and calms the mind enough to connect to the rhythm of what is going on around you, whilst building the therapeutic relationship.
Being outdoors may calm you, aid focus and thought processes, enabling you to make meaning of intrusive thoughts.
Creative, walking therapy can be particularly helpful when there are things you cannot say in words. I use a range of ways to express and develop meaning to what is coming up in the present.
I believe you cannot use up creativity, the more you use, the more you have.

Releasing creativity within, may bring you possibilities and allow you to discover new ideas. To explore limiting thoughts and negotiating life, can be difficult to express.
Creative, walking therapy sessions may help you discover who you truly are, and make sense of your world.
“We are all just walking each other home”
